Life truly is about the journey, not the destination. Though your home may technically be a destination, you should look to build a home that suits the journey of your life. Looking at “The Beachcomber” by Forge Properties, 2018 Ovation Award Winner for Best Room: New Construction and Best Special Feature: New or Renovated, you see a home built with purpose; bringing together the homeowner’s hobbies, passion and family favourites.
The family and owners of The Beachcomber are lifelong collectors and eclectic treasure hunters who wanted to share their passion with friends and family in a finely tailored interactive environment. Every design decision focused on creating spaces that bring together the family’s love of art, music, literature, film and antiquing. For example, this home showcases a nautically themed study and master-bedroom, a Parisian-styled attic library and record-room, a classic theatre and arcade, and a climate-controlled comic vault with almost a century of history on display.
This family loves treasure hunting through antique markets and garage sales; this remains an ongoing delight for the owners and their children to share to this date. Every piece within the home has a story and the design mandate was to embrace their collected heirlooms.
Cory Saran, Principal and Owner of Forge Properties notes that “Attics, are a brilliant spot to feature the things you love. They’re cozy, have the ability to be architecturally dramatic and really embrace the use of display shelving for books and collected artifacts. At the Beachcomber, we added the library and record room above the garage.”
Saran continues, “You don’t have to spend a lot of money to achieve design success. Much of it comes down to spatial planning and investing in some but not all your fits and finishes. By incorporating a thematic use of natural materials, engineered-oak flooring, camel leather upholstery, and black accents throughout, each area flows effortlessly into the next.”
Believe it or not, your happiness can be linked to your home. That does not mean we all need “Live, laugh, love” decals on our walls. It means that we should pay attention to our home and incorporate the things that breathe life back into us, the things that help up appreciate the journey and help us relish in the moments that bring us joy.
