Every month, Boulevard sends photographer and chief Alfonso Arnold to scan our wonderful city to find true and passionate artists to interview, snap, and feature. This month brings us to Leone (one of Vancouver’s top luxury boutiques) to feature Boulevard’s Fashion Stylist, the fabulous and marvelous Sarah D’Arcey!
Boulevard: Welcome Sarah! It’s so exciting to feature a member of our production team for this issue. Can you give us a bit of background about yourself?
Sarah: My career really began during my time in Toronto while I was in fashion school at George Brown College! I interned for Dress for Success (DFS) and there I found my passion for styling! Legendary Photographer, Bill Cunningham is famous for saying, “fashion is the armor to survive the reality of everyday life.” My time at DFS taught me that what we wear translates into how we feel. Helping women look and feel confident in their own skin is something that is extremely rewarding.
Boulevard: You have been able to grow from editorial styling to dressing for red carpet events. Is one more difficult than the other?
Sarah: I always say that there isn’t a red carpet that I don’t love! The difference between editorial and red carpet is there is no room for error in fit and how the garment photographs. In editorial, you can adjust angles, pin and clip so there is more leeway. My first red carpet client was actress Steph Song for the Canadian Screen Awards last year and it was so special that she wore local Vancouver designer, House of Bahareh. As well, Elle McKinnon from Wonder the Movie wore custom Myoo Couture from Berlin to the LA premiere in November.
Boulevard: If you were to give your top 5 tips to looking fabulous daily, what would they be?
Sarah: I am a huge fan of creating your own YOUniform! I have given styling workshops for the Fairmont Chateau Whistler am will give the same advice as in my workshop:
1. Quality over Quantity
2. Invest in a Tailor
3. Know your Color Palette
4. Take Care of your Skin
5. Get a Makeup Lesson
Boulevard: Any present or future styling trends we should be aware of?
Sarah: As a stylist. My rule is to invest more in staple items and cycle in three or four pieces a season that are trends, where you don’t invest as much! The trends I love right now for SS18 are sequins, checks, fringe and pastels. I also love this notion of carrying multiple bags, like on the Dolce and Gabbana, Chanel and Gucci runways.
Boulevard: Finally, what can we expect in the near future from you?
Right now, I my focus is on further developing my personal styling
services so stay tuned for more! You can also catch me on set styling the next fabulous Boulevard Magazine cover!
Boulevard: Thanks so much for taking the time Sarah, and we can’t wait to see your upcoming features!
