If you’re looking for a thoughtful gift for the dad in your life — whether it’s your own doting dad, your fabulous father-in-law or your helpful hubby, you could probably use some ideas. Because let’s face it, most dads are tough to buy for, and many of the old standards like ties (does anyone wear these anymore?), cologne (how much does one man need?), ‘best dad’ novelty mugs/shirts/hats (sweet but these get old fast) no longer really cut it. When it comes to buying gifts dads will truly love, it’s best to stick to practical, useful items they might not bother to get for themselves. Here are some ideas.
A Clean Car
We all know guys love their cars — especially when they’re clean and shiny. But dads with young kids or teens undoubtedly have cars filled with dirt and debris — and little time to do anything about it. Getting their car professionally detailed for them gives them a clean ride and saves them time they can otherwise spend with the fam. Full disclosure: I got for this gift for Mother’s Day and was not disappointed.
A Grill Kit
What dad doesn’t love to grill in the summertime? A grill kit gives you lots of gift options — from a new grill itself to all the accessories he’ll need to season, flip and skewer to his heart’s content. You could even get him a good cooler to help him transport it all to a beach cookout.
Essentials by Subscription
If the dad you’re buying for is shopping-averse (as so many are), do him a favour and give him a gift that will keep on giving — and keep him out of the stores. Subscription boxes deliver everything from snacks, to shaving supplies, to socks and underwear, to beer — all the essentials he needs without any of the hassles of shopping.
Tech Toys
Guys love their tech toys like Vancouverites love their real estate, so why not help him update his tech? If he’s a heavy smartphone user, consider a portable charger or wireless headphones. If he’s more of a homebody, how about a home assistant or a video doorbell? If his car is his second home, consider a dash cam or phone dock.
Pampering
It’s not just moms who need pampering from time to time, dads enjoy being doted on too. Give him a little down time with a gift card for a massage, a movie or a meal prep service.
With a little thought and creativity, you can show the dads in your life a whole lot of love for all they do with a gift they’ll really appreciate. However you celebrate the dads in your life, we wish you a happy Father’s Day!
